India Announces Star-Studded Squad for Sudirman Cup 2025 with Eyes Set on Podium Finish

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has unveiled a formidable 14-member squad for the upcoming BWF Sudirman Cup Finals 2025, set to be held in Xiamen, China from April 27 to May 4. India, qualifying through world rankings, will compete in the prestigious mixed team championships with a well-balanced unit across all five categories.

The squad features some of India’s brightest badminton stars, including two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and World Championships’ medalists Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy. Adding more firepower to the team are the men’s doubles aces Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, currently ranked World No. 10 and returning to action after recovering from injury.

India faces a stern test in Group D, drawn alongside badminton powerhouses Indonesia, two-time runners-up Denmark, and a strong England team. However, the squad depth gives India a real shot at making it to the knockouts and possibly clinching a historic medal.

“The selectors have picked the best possible combination in all the five categories despite some injury worries,” said BAI General Secretary Sanjay Mishra. “We are no longer dependent on one or two disciplines to win the tie and that makes us a formidable force in any team event. We are confident that the team will not only make its mark in the group stages but can go on to create history by winning a medal.”

The team’s morale has been buoyed by recent performances at the Badminton Asia Championships. PV Sindhu gained much-needed match practice, while the mixed doubles duo of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto impressed with a quarterfinal finish.

In addition to experienced campaigners, the squad also includes rising stars. Former national champion Anupama Upadhyaya will bolster the women’s singles lineup as the second option behind Sindhu. Injuries to Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly have paved the way for the young women’s doubles pair of Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra.

The men’s doubles department sees backup strength in Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar, while Aadya Variyath completes the squad’s women’s lineup.

India Squad for Sudirman Cup 2025:

Men: Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, Hariharan Amsakarunan, Ruban Kumar R, Dhruv Kapila, Sathish Kumar Karunakaran

Women: PV Sindhu, Anupama Upadhyaya, Tanisha Crasto, Priya Konjengbam, Shruti Mishra, Aadya Variyath

With strength in depth and momentum on their side, Team India enters the Sudirman Cup 2025 with belief and ambition — aiming to turn potential into podium success.
