Indian badminton’s star pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty creates history as they win the 2022 French Open title

Indian Men’s doubles pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have created history together as they have defeated Taiwan’s Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han 21-13, 21-19 in the finals to lift the Men’s Doubles title at the 2022 French Open tournament. This became the first Indian pairing to win a BWF 750 title as the Indian duo keep on shining and soaring the skies.

The French Open final last for 49 minutes and SatwikSairaj and Chirag mostly had their control over the game though there were moments in the second game where it felt like they will take it away but the Indian pairing held their nerves and eventually they managed to wrap it up in straight games.

In the first game the Indians led 11-5 at the midway and finished it off with 21-13 as they dominated the Taiwanese pair and did not give them any space to settle. The second game was much tiger as the score suggests. However the start to the second game was also as dominant as ever as the Indian pair had the similar lead of 11-5 at the break. But the Taiwanese pair came back strong and forced their opponents to make mistakes. COming from behind there was a moment when the taiwanese pair had levelled at 16-16 as the Indian pair were clearly noxious with the finishing line so close within their reach.

The Taiwanese players just forced the Indians to play difficult shots under pressure and hence the mistakes kept creeping in allowing  Lu Ching and Yang Po to take a 19-17 lead. While it felt like the decider was about to begin, Satwiksairaj and Chirag held their nerves and won consecutive four points to win the game, match and the title.

This was their second win of the season having won the Indian Open 500 tournament. But this was obviously special as they were the first Indian pairing to win a Super 750 title and they did it with great dominance defeating some top class pairs from all over the world. They also became the second pairing to lift the French Open title. The first pair was of Partho Ganguly and Vikram Singh back in 1983.
