Lakshya Sen jumps to World No. 12 after winning the Canada Open, PV Sindhu also World No. 12 after semifinal finish

Indian young shuttler Lakshya Sen endured a very difficult spell at the start of this year with his nose surgery and wavering form. Therefore his ranking dropped down to World No. 19. But after winning the Canada Open by beating the reigning All England champion Li Shifeng of China in the finals, Sen has jumped seven places to be the new World No. 12 in the BWF Rankings.

This was Sen’s second BWF Super 500 title after he won the Indian Open in the past. But this was his first title of this year. Unfortunately, he faced a major drop with many early exits in events. To give some context, Sen started 2023 as World No. 10 but then he had a very tumultuous period in his life and he lost a lot of matches and also rankings. So much so that he dropped out of the top 10 and then out of the top 20 in a couple of months.

When he was ranked World No. 25, Sen decided to take a break from the sport and then returned with a semifinal finish at the Thailand Open which took him back to the top 20 and with this win in Canada, he is again close to the top 10.

In men’s singles, HS Prannoy remained stationed at World No. 9 and is India’s highest-ranked shuttler in the singles category. While Kidambi Srikanth is currently World No. 20.

PV Sindhu also reached the semifinals of the Canada Open and that has helped her majorly as she also went through many injury concerns after she suffered a stress fracture on her ankle during her Gold medal finish at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

But she has now gained three places and is currently ranked World No.12 in the new BWF Rankings.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty remain India’s best pairing at World No. 3, while MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila are unmoved at World No.26.

But in the women’s doubles pairing of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand fall places to be the new World No. 18 as the duo has been out of action for some time now. In mixed doubles, Rohan Kapoor and N Sikki Reddy keep their place at World No. 35.

The Indians will be busy with the US Open and the Korean Open coming up and the shuttles will aim to earn as many rankings places as possible with dominating performances in these events.
