Lakshya Sen ruled out of Thailand Open due to back injury

Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen has pulled out from the Thailand Open due to a back strain he picked up during training. The doctors have advised the 2018 Youth Olympics Silver medalist to take rest following his injury.

“Unfortunately, Lakshya will not be able to play the two events in Thailand due to a slight back strain that he suffered during training,” PPBA Director and former India coach Vimal Kumar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

There are two Super 1000s scheduled to be held in Thailand in the January 12-17 and January 19-24 durations. Lakshya had won five titles in the senior circuit in 2019 but he won’t even be able to participate in the second tournament due to the strict COVID-19 protocols in place.

Lakshya played in the Denmark Open last in October. He was supposed to participate in the SaarLorLux Open, in which he was the defending champion, as well. However, his father and coach — DK Sen — was tested positive for coronavirus after landing in Germany.
