Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green has predicted that head coach Steve Kerr won’t be back next season. The Warriors were eliminated late Friday night in Phoenix after they suffered a 111-96 loss.
The Dubs could not tick the right boxes as they ended the regular season in 10th place in the Western Conference standings. They had a 37-45 win-loss record in the regular season and thus failed to qualify for the postseason.
“I hope he’s our coach next season,” Green said on his podcast, “The Draymond Green Show.” “You want my opinion? I think not. Just because it feels like that. It felt like that was it.”
After Friday’s loss, Kerr was heard telling Green and talismanic shooter, Steph Curry, “I don’t know what’s going to happen next, but I love you guys to death. Thank you.”
Kerr said he would take a call on his future with the Warriors in the next week or two.
“I still love coaching, but I get it,” Kerr said late Friday night in Phoenix. “These jobs all have an expiration date. There is a run that happens, and when the run ends, sometimes it’s time for new blood and new ideas.”
Meanwhile, Green, holding a one-year, $27.6 million player option, isn’t as assured of his future with the Warriors.
“I’ve never been so uncertain since earlier in my career in what happens next,” Green said on his podcast. “But I’m truly at a loss now because you don’t know what direction will be next. … I also hope I’m on this team next season. We also don’t know that. Man, if it was, what a run.”
On the other hand, Steph Curry is entering the last season of his contract but he is expected to sign an extension agreement later in the summer.
