Golden State Warriors made a winning start to their NBA 2021-22 campaign as they defeated Los Angeles Lakers by 121-114 at the Staples Center on Wednesday. GSW talisman Stephen Curry admitted that he was not at his best and said he played like trash.
In fact, Curry recorded a triple-double as he scored 21 points, ten rebounds, and as many assists. However, he was not happy with shooting accuracy. Curry received support from his teammate Jordan Poole, who scored 20 points, two rebounds, and three assists.
It was noticed that Curry was the lone warrior for Golden State Warriors in the previous season as he didn’t get support from his teammates. Curry stated that for GSW to be great, he and Poole will have to hold each other accountable in the ongoing season.
“If we’re going to be great, me and you have got to hold each other accountable,” Curry said. “I’m too damn old to be making that mistake, and you’ve got to learn how to not make the mistake.”
Curry, who is regarded as one of the best shooters in the history of the game, was not happy with his own performance but was quite content as the team was able to get the win under their belt. This was Curry’s first triple-double since January 2016 and he became the 3rd oldest ever to get one in a season-opener.
“This is a good feeling, we had a lot of excitement coming into the season. A new cast of characters mixed with our core, and we weathered the storm tonight. Obviously, I played like trash, shot the ball terribly. But if we can win a game like that, where we created some good shots and stuck with it defensively, I guess a pretty good team. Get a win like that that’s a good omen for us.”
Curry added, “So we gotta learn from our mistakes, quit turning the ball over, make some more shots, then we’ll be good.”
GSW will take on LA Clippers on Thursday.
