Luka Doncic has made his commitment to the Los Angeles Lakers clear as he prepares for the 2026-27 NBA season, delivering a championship-focused message to the team’s fans.
In an essay published in a new Lakers book, Doncic described how strongly he has embraced the franchise since arriving from the Dallas Mavericks. He emphasized that he considers himself a Laker and is determined to bring more championships to Los Angeles.
Doncic wrote that being a Laker feels amazing and that he desperately wants the same thing Lakers fans want: to win it all. He added that he will not rest until the franchise wins more championships.
The message reinforces comments Doncic has made since committing his future to Los Angeles. He signed a three-year, $165 million maximum contract extension in August 2025, keeping him under contract through the 2027-28 season. At the time, Doncic said he believed the Lakers had the pieces necessary to compete for a championship.
His role within the organization has continued to grow. NBA.com described Doncic earlier this year as the unquestioned face of the franchise and Los Angeles’ top priority after his first year with the Lakers.
The Lakers have since reshaped their roster around the Slovenian superstar. LeBron James departed during the offseason, while Los Angeles retained Austin Reaves and acquired Walker Kessler as part of its effort to construct a roster better suited to Doncic’s style.
Doncic also took an active leadership role during the offseason. He funded a minicamp in Slovenia that gave his teammates an opportunity to train and spend time together before the start of training camp.
The 27-year-old is also healthy again after a left hamstring injury prevented him from participating in the Lakers’ 2026 playoff run. He recently told fans that he is fully healthy heading into the new season.
Los Angeles opens the 2026-27 regular season against the Golden State Warriors on October 21 at Crypto.com Arena. For Doncic, the objective entering another season in purple and gold could not be clearer: adding another championship banner to the Lakers’ collection.
