When Golden State Warriors talisman Steph Curry was struggling with his shooting slump, his head coach Steve Kerr was not losing sleep as he knew his star will soon get back to his best. When Curry scored 40 points against Houston Rockets on Monday to lead his team to 122-108 win and gave glimpses of what he is capable of, Kerr was not surprised at all and said it was bound to happen.
Curry averaged around 21 ppg in January and it was six points less than what he was averaging (27.6) back in December. The linchpin was struggling with his shooting accuracy and questions were raised on his form.
Curry shot 13/23 field goals while he converted seven out of the eight free throws as he returned to his best. The linchpin scored 21 points in the fourth quarter, as he took off in style. This was the 37th occasion when Curry scored at least 20 points in a single quarter and thus also went past Kobe Bryant’s NBA record.
Kerr said in the post-game interview: “I mean we’ve seen Steph do that a million times, so it was bound to happen even though it’s been a couple of weeks. Not surprising, but it was fun just to see him, you know, kind of shake free and have a game like he did.”
Curry feels he was in the zone in the final quarter and was able to get the confidence under his belt in the final few minutes.
“You always feel like the next shot is going to start that vibe,” he said. “It’s no secret how I’ve been shooting the ball recently, but the confidence is always there and it only takes one to ignite a night like that.”
This was Golden State Warriors’ sixth win in a row as they now have a 38-13 record. GSW will next take on San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.
