Former Houston Rockets player and manager Rudy Tomjanovich has announced his return to NBA Basketball as he has taken up duty as the Player Personnel Consultant of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Timberwolves announced his signing through a statement they released on social on Sunday (December 6). The statement read that Tomjanovich “will provide perspective on draft, trade and free agency prospects and processes for the Timberwolves,” which should be a good return position for getting back to the NBA for the first time in 15 years.
His last stint in the NBA was with Los Angeles Lakers. He served as their head coach for just 41 games before moving into the consultant role citing “exhaustion” as the reason. However, he did win two famous titles with the Rockets in 1994 and 1995 and also holds a 527-416 regular season record as a coach, along with a 51-39 playoff record.
Tomjanovich also spent 11 years as a player with the Rockets, during which he made five All-Star appearances. He holds career averages of 17.4 points, 2 assists and 8.1 rebounds per game. Not only that, he also took up roles as a scout and assistant coach in Houston when he called time on his career as a player. He continued to do that until 1992.
He has had immense success with the US National Men’s Team as well. They won a Bronze medal in the 1998 FIBA World Championships and a Gold in the 2000 Olympics during Tomjanovich’s stint. After that, he also served as the Director of Scouting for the US Men’s Team in 2006.
After all these achievements, it wasn’t until this year that he was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Now he is returning to the League once again to add to his rich legacy.
