Klay Thompson reckons there is no point in looking back at Golden State Warriors tenure. Thompson spent 13 years with the Golden State Warriors and won four NBA championships with the Dubs but signed a three-year, $50 million deal with the Mavericks ahead of the ongoing season.
Thompson, 34, averaged 17.9 points in the last edition, his lowest since 2012-13. The former Warrior feels it is wise to move on and believes he has a great opportunity to create something special with the Dallas Mavericks, who finished as the runners-up in the previous season.
“That chapter is over,” Thompson told Andscape after the Mavericks’ 122-120 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night. “I’m in the midst of trying to win here. There is no point in missing anything when we have such a great opportunity here to be great. There’s no point in looking back …
“I got to look forward. I got to try to give my best self here.”
Meanwhile, Thompson made a potent trio with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, registering 518 wins in the regular season and playoffs. Thompson said he will always cherish his time with the Dubs.
“I cherish it, but I am still trying to move on and win here,” Thompson said Sunday during a postgame news conference.
Thompson is optimistic that this will be a special season for the Mavericks, who have got off to a 5-5 start in the new season.
“We have some real experience and a chance of winning,” Thompson said. “I know we are .500 right now and playing mediocre basketball. But from my experiences, it’s a long season and you have to peak at the right time …
“You have to keep going, keep your emotions and stay the course. Keep a smile on your face. It’s a long [season]. We have a chance to be special.”
Thompson will be up against his former team in Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night.
