Chennai Super Kings have roped in the services of Dominic Drakes as Sam Curran’s replacement. The English all-rounder, who has impressed in the tournament, has been ruled out of IPL 2021 and the T20 World Cup due to a lower back injury.
Tom Curran, Sam’s elder brother, has replaced him in England’s T20 World Cup squad.
Meanwhile, Dominic Drakes recently impressed while playing for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League and he would like to make an impression for the MS Dhoni-led team if gets his chance.
The official statement of advisory issued by the IPL read: “Chennai Super Kings have signed Dominic Drakes as a replacement for injured England all-rounder Sam Curran for the remainder of the Vivo Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
“Drakes is an uncapped West Indian all-rounder who has featured in one First-Class, 25 List A and 19 T20 matches so far. He is a left-handed batsman and a left-arm medium pacer.
The youngster, who is the son of former West Indies bowler Vesbert Drakes, had a successful run in CPL 2021. The left-arm fast-medium had scalped 16 wickets for St. Kitts in CPL 2021 in the 11 innings and finished as the team’s leading wicket-taker in the tournament.
Furthermore, he played an instrumental role in the team’s triumph in the CPL 2021 final as he hammered 24-ball 48 with the help of three fours and as many sixes. Thus, he helped his team in chasing down 160 runs against St Lucia Kings, and thus St Kitts and Nevis Patriots won their maiden CPL title.
Chennai Super Kings will take on Punjab Kings in their last league game of the VIVO IPL 2021 on October 7 at the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai. The MS Dhoni-led team has lost their last two matches and would aim to return back to winning ways.
