IPL 2021: I had a chat with Virat Kohli, everyone supported me – Ishan Kishan on getting back among runs

Mumbai Indians talisman batsman Ishan Kishan has revealed that he had a chat with Virat Kohli and everyone supported him when he was going through a rough patch.

Kishan was in red hot form in the previous season of the IPL 2020 as he scored 516 runs and played a key role in the success of the franchise.

However, he hasn’t been able to replicate the same success in the ongoing season for the defending champions. As Kishan was struggling to find his form, he was also dropped out of the playing XI by MI. When Kishan once again received his opportunity to be in the final XI against Rajasthan Royals, he was able to grab his chance with both hands.

Kishan got off the mark on the seventh ball he faced against RR however he was able to change gears. There was no scoreboard pressure as MI needed to chase only 91 runs to win and thus Kishan played his natural game and took the attack on the RR bowlers.

In fact, Kishan was seen having a chat with Indian captain Virat Kohli after RCB defeated MI recently. Kishan also revealed that he had a chat with Hardik Pandya and MI vice-captain Kieron Pollard, who told him to watch his previous season videos when he was in prime form. Kishan added that he gained a lot of confidence after he saw his own videos.

Ishan Kishan said in the post-match interview, “It’s nice to be back opening and getting runs for the team and helping win by a big margin. Feeling really good, was much needed for our team to get momentum. It was good to field first, got a good idea of the surface. Our plan was to play as straight as possible.

Just play in the V was the plan and the batsmen executed really well. I feel ups and downs are a big part of any sportsman. I was also not in good shape. Most of the batters were not getting runs like in previous seasons. We had great support staff. Our captain… In fact, I had a chat with Virat Bhai, Hardik Bhai.. everyone was there to support me”.

“I had a chat with KP (Pollard) who said you just need to keep things simple, bat the way you used to do, just watch the videos of what you did in the last season. I watched a few videos of my batting and that gave me a bit of confidence. There is talk of us wanting KKR to lose the next game and us winning our next game (smiles), but that is way ahead now. We just have to prepare for our next game. Need to play with the same energy today. Looking forward to doing this again in the next game”.

Kishan would aim to continue the good show in the team’s last league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. MI will need to win by a big margin against Orange Army if KKR wins their final match against Rajasthan Royals.

Meanwhile, Kishan would have gained a lot of confidence after playing a blistering knock of 50 runs off just 25 and helped his chase down the total in 8.2 overs against RR.
