14-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Creates SMAT History with Record-Breaking Century

Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name into the record books on Tuesday as he smashed his maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) century during Bihar’s group-stage clash against Maharashtra in Kolkata. At just 14 years old, Suryavanshi became the youngest player in the tournament’s history to score a hundred, marking yet another remarkable milestone in his rapidly rising career.

The teenage sensation reached his century in 58 balls, showcasing a fearless blend of timing and power. His knock included seven fours and seven towering sixes, a display that left spectators and teammates equally stunned. Already known for rewriting records, Suryavanshi holds the distinction of being the youngest T20 centurion after his blistering 35-ball hundred for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans in the 2025 Indian Premier League season.

His latest achievement comes on the back of a challenging run of form. After a brief scoring drought, where he recorded low returns of 14, 13 and 5 in his previous outings, Suryavanshi began to rebuild confidence with a composed 34-ball fifty earlier in the tournament. On Tuesday, he carried that momentum into a career-defining innings that demonstrated both maturity and aggression beyond his years.

The left-hander remained unbeaten on 108 off 61 deliveries, anchoring Bihar’s innings and ensuring they posted a competitive total of 176 for three in their allotted 20 overs. His ability to shift gears seamlessly—rotating strike when needed and accelerating with clean hitting—played a crucial role in stabilizing the innings while maintaining scoreboard pressure on Maharashtra.

Suryavanshi’s performance not only lifted Bihar to a strong total but also cemented his status as one of India’s most exciting young cricketing talents. With each milestone, he continues to break age barriers and redefine expectations for teenage players competing at the senior domestic level.

As the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy progresses, all eyes will remain on the 14-year-old prodigy whose fearless approach and innate batting flair have already begun shaping a compelling early chapter in his cricketing journey.
