Five-time champions Mumbai Indians recently parted ways with their head coach Mahela Jayawardene and they would looking to fill in the void. MI had failed to qualify for the playoffs in the previous season and they would be determined to go all the way in the next season.
Captain Hardik Pandya’s future with the franchise is also uncertain and it would be interesting to note how things develop in the next few months.
We take a look at three favourites to take over as MI head coach:
Kieron Pollard: Kieron Pollard has had a long association with Mumbai Indians. The former West Indies all-rounder made his IPL debut for the franchise back in 2010.
He scored 3412 in 189 IPL matches at an average of 28.47 and a strike rate of 147.33 and thus played an instrumental role in adding the finishing touches on innumerable occasions.
Moreover, he scalped 69 wickets in his IPL career. Furthermore, Pollard is currently serving as MI’s batting coach after he took over the role in 2022 after announcing his IPL retirement.
Aaron Finch: Former Australian captain Aaron Finch is believed to have held talks with a few IPL teams and he can be one of the potential targets for Mumbai Indians. Finch scored 2091 runs in 92 IPL matches at an average of 25.19 and a strike rate of 128.91.
The former Australian skipper also led his country to glory in the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Michael Hussey: Former Australian batter Michael Hussey recently parted ways with Chennai Super Kings as a batting coach. Hussey also turned down an offer to join the England setup under Stephen Fleming. It is also reported that Hussey has reached out to IPL franchises, and it would not be surprising if he has contacted the MI management as well.
Hussey scored 1977 runs in 51 IPL matches at an average of 38.76 and a strike rate of 122.65.
