Aakash Chopra gives stern warning to Sai Sudharsan after Day 1 of IND vs WI 2025 1st Test

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has urged Sai Sudharsan to make the most of his chances while batting at number three in Test cricket. Sudharsan was dismissed after scoring only seven runs in the first innings of the opening Test match against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Thursday.

The left-hander tried to play the pull shot against Roston Chase but failed to pick up the length and thus was plumbed in front of the wickets.

Meanwhile, Sudharsan had failed to grab his opportunity with both hands on the England tour. The southpaw could only manage 140 runs in three Test matches at an average of 23.33.

“I’m a little disappointed for Sai Sudharsan, because he has not scored enough runs to cement the No.3 spot. I’ll tell you one thing, one mistake is allowed in cricket, which is to pick the wrong length, but if you play with a straight bat on top of that, then batters get out nine times out of ten,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Sudharsan has so far scored 147 runs in seven innings, and thus he has failed to make the most of his opportunities in the red-ball format.

Meanwhile, the West Indies were skittled out for a paltry score of 162 runs after Roston Chase decided to bat first. Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with figures of 4-40, whereas Bumrah bagged 3-42 in 14 overs he bowled.

On the second day’s play, KL Rahul completed his second century in the home conditions as he was unbeaten on 100 before the lunch break. Shubman Gill was dismissed in the pre-lunch session after scoring his eighth Test fifty.

At lunch, India were 218-3, leading WI by 56 runs.
