Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra lavished praise on Gujarat Titans top three – Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler – after they secured a comprehensive 89-run win against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Gill and Sudharsan once again gave a solid start to their team – adding 125 runs for the opening alliance. While Gill scored 64 runs off just 37 balls, Sudharsan scored 84 runs off 53 balls.
Buttler also continued his purple patch, scoring 57 runs off just 27 deliveries. Thus, GT were able to post a par score of 229 runs on the board after CSK decided to bowl first.
While Gill (616) and Sudharsan (638) have scored more than 600 runs in the ongoing season, Buttler has amassed 469 runs in the tournament.
“When you look at their (GT’s) season, you realize that they have mastered the formula, and the formula is brilliant. They are playing in a way where Sai Sudharsan allows the ball to come to him and plays risk-free cricket. He plays along the ground and tries to put the ball into gaps. He quickly takes a single and goes to the other end. He waits for the balls he can hit,” Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
“Shubman Gill this season is another beast, the way he is batting. It seems like the guy is on a different mission. He is using his feet and playing aerial shots as well. As soon as the spinner comes, whether it’s Sunil Narine or Noor Ahmad, he hits sixes. Suddenly, he has presented his upgraded and updated version. There is no talk about T20Is, but he is saying he can do this job,” he added.
Chopra also gave credit to Jos Buttler for the team’s success this season.
“Then comes Jos Buttler, and Jos is just incredible. The truth is that he has spent so much time working hard in the nets because the bad form in the World Cup hurt him, and then to come here and perform like this,” he observed.
GT will look to carry the good show in the playoffs.
