Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra praised Rohit Sharma for his recent form after the ODI series against the West Indies. Sharma scored 225 runs in three ODIs against the West Indies at an average of 75 and a strike rate of 115.38.
The Indian opener scored an impressive knock of 101 runs off 75 balls in the second ODI at Guwahati in the run chase of 406. Rohit continued his rich form, scoring a crucial knock of 92 runs off 85 balls in the third game at New Chandigarh.
India had lost two early wickets of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli and thus Rohit decided to play according to the match situation. Chopra said Rohit’s knock of 92 runs was better than his previous two centuries against the West Indies and England.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel, “The guy gave us a lesson. When you’ve scored a hundred in the last match, it’s very easy to hit straightaway in the next match, but he didn’t do that. He said, ‘No, I will struggle, look scratchy or ugly, but my team needs me to play like this.’ He has two hundreds in his last four innings, but this 92 was better than both hundreds.”
The renowned commentator hailed KL Rahul as the most versatile batter after the wicket-keeper-batsman scored a stunning knock of 129 runs off just 87 balls in the final game.
“The chance eventually came, and he was absolutely ready. You keep this in mind: I won’t get chances again and again; whatever I get, I’ll capitalize on it. You definitely see his determination there. No matter how much we talk about KL Rahul, it feels like it’s not enough because he is the most versatile batter, not just in India, but across the world.
“The range of cricket that he has is incredible. I don’t think there is anyone like him in world cricket. Maybe Travis Head still comes slightly close, but I still rate KL Rahul a little better.”
India will next take on the West Indies in a five-match T20I series, starting Tuesday.
