Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra has shed light on India’s strengths heading into T20 World Cup 2026. Chopra reckons India’s potent bowling line-up is one of their main strengths in the T20I showpiece.
The former Delhi cricketer highlighted that India has the services of the number one T20I bowler in Varun Chakravarthy. The mystery spinner recently scalped four wickets in three matches against New Zealand. Furthermore, the hosts have a gun fast bowler in Jasprit Bumrah and also have Arshdeep Singh.
Moreover, India has all-rounders like Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Shivam Dube.
“The world’s No. 1 T20I bowler is here, and that’s not Bumrah, that’s Varun Chakaravarthy. We have him, and along with him, Jasprit Bumrah is there. That makes it your eight-over bank. Then you have Arshdeep Singh, who has taken the most T20I wickets for India,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
“You have an incredible all-rounder in the form of Axar Patel. Hardik Pandya, maybe the best all-rounder in the world, is with you. Shivam Dube’s stature has grown in bowling,” he observed.
On the other hand, the renowned commentator noted that India has the depth in their batting department as they have batting till number eight.
“If we talk about batting depth, you have a proper batter available till No. 8. If we actually see that slot, it’s Axar Patel’s. Axar Patel batting at No. 8 is a delight. How is that even possible, but India are able to do that, and in that too, all batters hit sixes and play a different brand of cricket,” Chopra elaborated.
“They are absolutely fearless and carefree. Whoever comes hits. Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, and then Axar Patel. This is a serious batting powerhouse,” he added.
India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against the USA on February 7.
