Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra showered praise on Shreyas Iyer after Punjab Kings registered a seven-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Saturday. With this win, PBKS were able to snap their six-game losing streak.
Iyer scored a magnificent knock of 101 off 51 balls, which is his maiden IPL century. The PBKS skipper smashed 11 fours and five sixes in his blistering knock. But PBKS will have to depend on other results to qualify for the playoffs. The Mohali-based would hope that Rajasthan Royals loses their final game against Mumbai Indians.
Chopra praised Iyer for his consistent performances in the run chase in the last two years.
“Shreyas Iyer scored a hundred. It seemed like it was slightly difficult at the start because the ball was moving left and right, but as it’s said, eventually, class will come through. It was classy batting, which also had control. This guy has become Bradmanesque in run chases in the last two years. He is like the new chase master,” Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
The former Delhi cricketer hailed Iyer for hitting three sixes against Mohammed Shami in an over.
“He scores runs consistently and remains unbeaten till the end. The average is talking to the sky. He has been very, very good, and he controlled the run chase. The three sixes he hit off Shami in an over, that was absolutely outstanding, and he eventually finished the match with a six,” he observed.
The renowned commentator also hailed Prabhsimran Singh for his consistent performances. Singh scored 69 runs off 39 balls against LSG and has overall accumulated 510 runs in 13 innings in the ongoing season.
“Prabhsimran Singh has become the first uncapped player to score 500-plus runs in two consecutive seasons. He was good. He got a life for sure off Arjun Tendulkar’s bowling, but he eventually scored a handsome fifty and took his team very close to the win,” he said.
However, Chopra questioned Priyansh Arya for once again getting out to a short delivery while playing the pull shot.
“Priyansh Arya got out to the first ball, and he is getting out in one way only. The ball goes above his head while playing the pull. He has probably gotten out like that for the fourth or fifth time this season,” Chopra observed.
Arya has scored 364 runs in 13 matches of the season.
