Aakash Chopra lauds Shubman Gill’s performance in ENG vs IND 2025 2nd Test

Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra hailed Shubman Gill for his impressive performance in the second Test match against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Gill scored a magnum opus knock of 269 runs in the first innings of the second Test and broke a lot of records.

The Indian captain continued his incredible form in the second innings, scoring another fine knock of 161 off 162 balls. Thus, Gill aggregated a total of 430 runs, which is the second highest score in a Test match after Graham Gooch’s tally of 456 runs.

Gill showed all the patience in both innings and batted at the top of his game to deliver for the team. The Indian skipper has already amassed 585 runs in the first two Test matches of the series.

“A lot of things are celebrated, your technique, temperament, and ability to fight, but a thing that is celebrated less is the hunger, how much appetite you have. This Test match tells the story of Shubman Gill’s hunger. You are physically and mentally drained when you score 250 in the first innings, and you are also very relaxed and happy,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.

The renowned commentator highlighted that Gill didn’t take things lightly and helped India strengthen its command.

“You were so close to a triple century. You have already created history. He scored a century in the last match as well. Sometimes you get complacent. However, hunger was required here, that if runs are required to be taken, I am the one who is going to take them,” he observed.

Edgbaston pitch has been a featherbed for the batters however, the former Delhi cricketer hailed Gill’s insatiable hunger for runs.

“Whenever you look back, you will see great numbers. It was the second-highest score in a Test match, the highest score by an overseas batter in England, he has gone to the top from the Indian point of view in a Test match, but it will also be discussed that it was a very flat pitch. No matter how good the conditions might be, only one guy has scored a hundred,” he said in the same video.

India had England on the ropes at 72-3 on the close of stumps on day four.
