Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra praised Yashasvi Jaiswal for his sensible knock against Chennai Super Kings at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on Monday. RR registered a comprehensive eight-wicket win against CSK to start their campaign on a high.
Chasing a below-par target of 128, Jaiswal scored an unbeaten knock of 38 runs off 36 balls with the help of three fours and one six. The left-hander played second fiddle to his opening partner, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored a 15-ball fifty.
Chopra said we saw glimpses of Virat Kohli in Jaiswal’s mature knock as he rotated the strike with guile.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal showed a lot of maturity. He allowed the hitting to be done from the other end. We saw glimpses of Virat Kohli in him, that one needs to look at the larger picture, keep the ego aside, and not compete with the batter at the other end,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
The renowned commentator said Jaiswal remained unbeaten and helped his team get over the line.
“The team needs to win, and if it’s possible to go as a red-inker, do that. Red-inker means a star against your name, which means unbeaten. Whoever has a star against his name more times, especially in a run chase, becomes a superstar. Yashasvi Jaiswal drove the game carefully. That was excellent,” he observed.
On the other hand, Chopra heaped praise on Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored 52 runs off 17 balls with the help of four fours and five sixes.
“He has a fearless attitude. One is not that fearless and carefree because a catch was dropped, but then he hit a six off the next ball, and then he kept hitting. He is an incredible batter. This was the eighth knock in his IPL career, and he has already scored more than 300 runs at a strike rate of more than 200,” he said.
Chopra praised the 15-year-old for his impressive backlift and bat swing.
“He has already scored the second-fastest fifty for the Rajasthan Royals, and the third is also his. There is something that is incredible. The secret is hidden in his backlift. He lifts his bat so early that he has to bring it down and take it up again. You find such batters very rarely, but he has that ability,” Chopra explained.
Rajasthan Royals will next take on Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Saturday.
