Aakash Chopra opens up on India’s loss in ENG vs IND 2026 ODI series

    July 20, 2026

Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra has shed light on India’s ODI series loss against England. India suffered a 2-1 series loss against England after losing the third ODI at Lord’s by 27 runs. Chopra highlighted that India hasn’t won anything since the win in the 2026 T20 World Cup, barring the one-off Test and the ODI series against Afghanistan at home.

On the UK tour, India suffered a 2-0 series loss against Ireland. Furthermore, they were outplayed by England in the T20I series, losing 4-0.

“We have lost another series. It is not a good story. It is actually a sad story because we lost the T20Is in Ireland, then we lost to England, and now we have lost the ODI series. We are not winning anything. We won a Test against Afghanistan and an ODI series against them. What else have we won apart from that?” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.

Chopra highlighted that India lost numerous series before their win in the T20I showpiece.

“We won the World Cup, but we lost the ODI series to New Zealand before that. We lost the Test series to South Africa before that. We are losing more and winning less. We got happy because we won the World Cup in between, but we are losing a lot apart from that. We shouldn’t acquire the habit of losing,” he observed.

India conceded 62 runs in the final three overs against England, which led to their downfall in the final ODI. The hosts were able to post a huge score of 387 runs on the board.

“We conceded a lot of runs. They thrashed our bowling. They kept hitting from the start. They scored nearly 400 runs. However, interestingly, they had scored only 325 runs in 47 overs, but we conceded 62 runs in the last three overs, 23 runs each in two overs, and 16 runs in the 50th over bowled by Prince Yadav,” he said.

Rookie pacer Gurnoor Brar was taken to the cleaners by English batters and the Punjab pacer conceded 97 runs in his 10 overs.

“Gurnoor almost completed his century. Only five bowlers were used. We don’t have a sixth bowler. That is the reality. What will we do if we don’t have a sixth bowler at all? I don’t mind the idea of playing with six batters, but the last three overs were so expensive, and they were also because they had a lot of wickets in hand,” Chopra noted.

India’s next ODI series is against the West Indies in September.
