Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra doesn’t think Washington Sundar would want to go to Chennai Super Kings ahead of IPL 2026 mini auction. According to Samayam Tamil, the Chennai Super Kings have approached the Gujarat Titans for an all-cash trade deal for Washington Sundar. Sundar can bat in the top-order, he can be promoted as a floater, and he can also add the finishing touches towards the fag end of an innings.
Furthermore, Sundar can bowl accurately and economically in the Powerplay overs. CSK won’t have the services of Ravichandran Ashwin for the upcoming season as the experienced spinner has called time on his IPL career.
Sundar has scalped 39 wickets in 66 IPL matches and has scored 511 runs.
“Another news that came was whether Washington Sundar can go to CSK. He told (Ravichandran) Ashwin that he doesn’t have any such plans. I don’t think he will go, although Washi has got less chances. Washi mentioned that as well that he didn’t get enough chances, but he said that he likes the atmosphere and the setup, and that he doesn’t want to go,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
Chopra reckons Gujarat Titans won’t release Sundar that easily ahead of the auction.
“However, if Ashwin has gone, Washi Sundar will fit in seamlessly in his place, and he is from Chennai as well. However, I don’t think the Gujarat Titans will leave him that easily. I don’t think that’s happening,” he observed.
Meanwhile, the renowned commentator reckons KKR would be happy if they can get KL Rahul ahead of the next season.
“There was news about KL Rahul that he could actually go to KKR. KKR will be very happy. If they don’t get Sanju (Samson), they can get KL Rahul. He can come and open, captain, and keep. Their many problems can get solved if they get a keeper-batter of Sanju or KL Rahul’s level,” he said.
Rahul has been a consistent performer in the IPL over the years.
