Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra believes India should rest Arshdeep Singh in the fourth T20I against New Zealand. The visitors have already sealed the series as they have taken an unassailable lead of 3-0.
The tourists won the third game at Wellington by six wickets with 40 balls to spare as they chased down 199 with ease.
Meanwhile, Singh has scalped four wickets in three games at an average of 27.75 in the ongoing series. Chopra highlighted that Bhuvneshwar Kumar has had a lukewarm comeback to the team and thus he needs more game time to find his rhythm.
Aakash Chopra said on Cricinfo, “I’ll do that. Bhuvneshwar Kumar hasn’t really looked the same. This is a kind of very lukewarm comeback to international cricket is what we have seen so far. He has conceded a lot of runs. He’s not bowling the death overs at all. Always in excess of 40s. Touched 50 once in the three games that he’s played. But I’ll still play him.”
The renowned commentator wants the team management to play Mayank Yadav in place of Arshdeep Singh.
“Play Mayank, play Prince. Because Mayank, the first game that he played, he was India’s exceptional bowler. The best bowler India had that day. First two overs, 11 runs, a wicket of Tim Seifert. So, he did well. But then he had to be rested for whatever reason. But now, if there is a possibility, he must play.”
Mayank returned with figures of 1-40 in the series opener against New Zealand.
The fourth T20I between India and New Zealand will be played at Eden Park, Auckland, on Friday.
