Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra has backed Dhruv Jurel to bat at number four if Shubman Gill is ruled out of the second Test match against South Africa. Gill suffered a neck spasm on the second day of the opening Test match and could only face three deliveries before he was taken to the hospital in Kolkata.
Gill’s injury led to the team’s downfall as India suffered a 30-run loss as they played with one batter short. On the other hand, Dhruv Jurel returned with scores of 14 and 13 in the opening Test against the Proteas and thus could not convert his starts.
Jurel had impressed in the two Test matches against the West Indies in the absence of injured Pant as he had scored 175 runs in three innings at an average of 87.50. However, with Pant returning to India’s Test squad, it would be interesting to note India’s playing combination.
Jurel has been in fine form and recently returned with scores of 132 and 127 in the second unofficial Test against South Africa A while playing for India A.
Furthermore, Chopra urged India to prepare a sporting wicket, that lasts for five days. Moreover, the renowned commentator wants India to play six proper batters in the playing XI as he thinks the combination of four spinners and two fast bowlers doesn’t work in Test cricket.
Aakash Chopra wrote in his tweet on X, “To-do list for the Guwahati Test
You can add your wish-list in comments.”
India and South Africa will take on each other in the second Test at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, from Saturday onwards.
