Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra heaped praise on Madhav Tiwari after Delhi Capitals registered a five-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Sunday.
Tiwari has impressed one and all in the last two games and picked 2-27 against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Sunday.
The right-arm seamer accounted for dangerous Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Shubham Dubey to play a key role in restricting RR to 193-8. Earlier, in the previous match against Punjab Kings, the youngster bagged 2-40 in his quota of four overs and also played a crucial cameo of 8-ball 18. Thus, he was awarded Player of the Match for his all-round performance.
Tiwari made his IPL debut in the 2025 season against Mumbai Indians but has really impressed in the ongoing edition.
“Vaibhav Suryavanshi started as usual. He hit Lungi Ngidi for a six and then hit Mitchell Starc for a six, but eventually he fell prey to Madhav Tiwari. Madhav bowled incredibly well. His into-the-pitch slower deliveries were outstanding. Mukesh Kumar was extremely expensive,” Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
“There was a two-over period in which Mukesh conceded 23 runs in an over, and Madhav came and rolled his fingers over the ball, and bowled a five-to-seven-run over. He hasn’t gotten many opportunities, but he has done extremely well whenever he has gotten an opportunity. Mitchell Starc picked up three wickets in an over,” he added.
Meanwhile, DC’s skipper Axar Patel scored an unbeaten knock of 34 runs off 18 balls in the run chase of 194. Chopra believes DC would not have been in this situation if Patel had scored runs consistently in the early phase of the tournament.
“KL Rahul’s knock was good at the start, but it became slightly slow later for sure. Axar Patel came good at the right time, or maybe not, because if he had scored runs earlier, they wouldn’t have been in this situation. You can reach 14 points only, and the qualification won’t happen on 14,” he said.
Delhi Capitals will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Sunday.
