Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra questioned David Miller after Delhi Capitals suffered a one-run loss against Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday. Miller refused to take a single on the fifth delivery of the final over and Kuldeep Yadav was run out on the last ball.
Chopra highlighted that Vipraj Nigam retained the strike as he took a single on the last ball of the 19th over. 13 runs were needed off the final over and Nigam was able to get a boundary on the first ball of the final over.
“420 runs were nearly scored in this match. The difference between the two teams was just one run and a decision, because the match could have gone the other way. The bowling was slightly ordinary in the last over as well. A four was conceded off the first ball, and then a 106-meter six, but Prasidh Krishna executed the last two balls well,” Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
“When two runs were required off two balls and a single was available to David Miller, he refused, and I am thinking you refused it now, but you allowed Vipraj to take a single off the last ball of the previous over. When two runs were required off the last ball, you missed, and Buttler made a direct hit from behind, and here you go, the Gujarat Titans got their first win,” he added.
The renowned commentator said if Miller had taken the single off the penultimate delivery, the match would have gone to the Super Over at most if Kuldeep had failed to get a run.
“It was just a one-run win. If he had taken the single, the minimum was a Super Over. Kuldeep Yadav could have won the match by taking a single or hitting a four. Prasidh Krishna might have gotten him out, but you were getting a Super Over for sure. A tie was confirmed had he taken that single. They have lost two points,” he said.
Delhi Capitals will next take on Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on Saturday.
