Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra questioned Kolkata Knight Riders for dropping Finn Allen after the New Zealander got a few low scores in the ongoing IPL 2026. The renowned commentator said KKR treated their skipper Ajinkya Rahane differently as he also failed to deliver consistently.
Chopra praised Allen for scoring a brilliant knock of 93 runs off just 35 balls after Kolkata Knight Riders registered a comprehensive 29-run win against Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Saturday.
The Kiwi batter smashed four fours and 10 sixes in his blistering knock as he played a key role in helping KKR post an above-par score of 247 runs on the board.
Allen added 95 runs off just 41 balls with Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who went on to score 82 runs off 44 balls.
“KKR batted incredibly. Finn Allen deserves praise there, and KKR should ask themselves a question. Why did you drop him? Finn Allen has also scored a hundred. He did that later and made a 90-plus score here. You are not dropping the one you should. Why are different rules created?” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
“As soon as you lose, you say something needs to be changed, but you are unable to change a few things. For example, Ajinkya Rahane hasn’t scored runs, but he has been continuosuly opening. Finn Allen wasn’t scoring runs, and you dropped him immediately. The truth is that you have stuck with Ajju as well. If you had stayed with Finn, you don’t know,” he observed.
On the other hand, the former KKR batter also praised Angkrish Raghuvanshi but said the youngster needs to find more gears in his batting.
“Angkrish Raghuvanshi is KKR’s highest run-scorer of the tournament. He has hit his fifth half-century. He plays cricket properly. He plays solidly, but it’s also true that he will have to find a few more gears, and I really hope he doesn’t spoil his foundation in search of those gears,” he said.
Kolkata Knight Riders will next take on Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Wednesday.
