Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra has questioned the selectors for not including Rinku Singh in the T20I squad for the Ireland and England tour. Singh was part of India’s World Cup-winning team but could only manage 24 runs in five innings at an average of eight and a strike rate of 82.75. But he batted down the order and faced only 29 deliveries.
The left-hander recently scored 295 runs in 11 innings at an average of 59 and a strike rate of 148.98 in IPL 2026 for KKR. However, in Rinku Singh’s place, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was picked after the youngster scored 776 runs in 16 matches, but the RR batter is a top-order batter.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel, “Everyone has forgotten him (Rinku Singh). No one is even talking about Rinku anymore. In all this chaos of selection, everyone has forgotten him. Our reliable and responsible Rinku is no longer there in that team. Honestly speaking, what wrong did he even do? I still don’t know. Maybe even Rinku doesn’t know. I’m sure the selectors must have had a conversation with him like, Brother, we had expectations from you at this time, and you haven’t been able to deliver that. But how many chances did he really get, man?”
Chopra expressed his surprise over Singh’s exclusion despite him being a proven player at the top level.
He concluded, “I mean, I feel a little sad for Rinku. Even now, if you look at it, his performances in the IPL weren’t bad at all. It was quite acceptable. Considering how well he has done, he is a good fielder, a pressure player with the bat. Again, he was part of a World Cup-winning team, he won the Asia Cup final with that four, and then suddenly he is out of favour. Very interesting.”
Singh would look to make a solid comeback into the team.
