Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra has rated Sunil Gavaskar’s preferred ODI World Cup squad. The ODI World Cup will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia across 12 venues from October 4 to November 21, 2027.
Meanwhile, Gavaskar picked Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. Chopra highlighted that the quintet was part of India’s 2023 ODI World Cup and the Champions Trophy 2025 squad.
Gavaskar also picked Ishan Kishan in the squad and backed all-rounders like Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya and Nitish Kumar Reddy in the squad.
The Little Master picked Kuldeep Yadav as the main spinner and selected fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh.
“Almost like-for-like options, two fast-bowling all-rounders. I like that actually. If there is an injury, you can play either or sometimes could play both, as you may not be able to play a lot of spin all-rounders. Both spinners are also experienced but almost like-for-like. All four all-rounders picked are like-for-like, two fast-bowling right-handed pace and right-hand batters, two left-arm finger spinners and left-hand batters,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.

Earlier, Chopra rated Ravi Shastri’s World Cup squad as 8/10, highlighting a absence of a left-arm seamer.
“I am going 8/10. A left-arm fast bowler is missing, and it is not a likely 15,” he said.
India’s next ODI assignment is against the West Indies at home.
