Former Australian skipper Aaron Finch has urged Delhi Capitals to promote in-form Tristan Stubbs to number three position amid the ongoing IPL 2026. DC haven’t able to find a stable number three in the ongoing season. Nitish Rana, who made a return to the team’s playing XI, batted at one drop against SRH and scored 57 runs off 30 balls.
Meanwhile, Stubbs has been in fine form and has provided the finishing touches for Delhi Capitals. The South African batter has scored 196 runs in six innings of IPL 2026 at an average of 65.33 and a strike rate of 137.06.
Aaron Finch said on ESPN Cricinfo, “He’s explosive from the start, he can maximize the powerplay. If he gets through the powerplay, then you are giving him the best opportunity to bat as long a period of time as he possibly can. Again, I keep coming back to teams that keep shuffling down their finishers. They get so scared of their finishers getting out early that they don’t let them bat long enough.
“Then they are pushed into a corner, so they might bat six balls in a game. If he gets in during the second over and bats till the 15th, he’s going to do some serious damage. I want my best players up there more often to be able to maximize the 20 overs,” Finch added.
Finch added that Delhi Capitals’ think tank should ask Stubbs to play according to the team’s demands.
He concluded, “You pick him in the team to play your game, not his. You say, ‘we want you bat at No. 3’. Then it comes down to the conversation, ‘I don’t care what your theory of batting is. If you want to change your game to become a No. 7, do that in your own time. You are on our time now at Delhi. You are one of the best batters in the team. You bat at No. 3 and play T20 accordingly’.”
Delhi Capitals will next take on Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on Saturday.
