Former South African batter AB de Villiers believes there will be selection headaches for the Indian team in the T20I series against Afghanistan. AB questioned where in-form Tilak Varma will bat in the three-match series.

The left-hander recently returned with scores of 116*, 51* and 99 in the Duleep Trophy and played a key role in getting South Zone to the final of the domestic tournament. Thus, Tilak has been in good form with the bat and he would look to carry the same.

AB de Villiers said on his YouTube Channel, “There will definitely be some selection issues with regards to the batters. Obviously, Shreyas, captain, Ishan Kishan, Samson, Suryavanshi, and then there are all-rounders, Tilak Varma, I think that’s where the balance is quite tricky. Where will he bat?”

The former RCB batter said Indian management will need to give clarity to their players regarding their respective roles

“Really, really strong squad, but the balance will be tricky to figure out. It is T20 cricket, so they can play around with the squad a little bit. There are different roles, but the role clarification will still be incredibly important for India, as they are playing quite a dangerous team.”

AB hailed the consistent performances of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The left-hander scored 151 runs in three T20Is against Zimbabwe and also impressed in the Duleep Trophy while playing for East Zone.

“Vaibhav Suryavanshi is obviously the big talking point. He’s still a teenager, guys, and scoring runs left, right, and center. It looks like he’s played international cricket for the last 10-15 years. Sky is the limit for him, and I absolutely cannot wait to watch him perform once again.”

The first T20I between India and Afghanistan will be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on 13th September.
