Former Indian assistant coach Abhishek Nayar believes Rohit Sharma would be concerned after not converting starts in the first two ODIs against England. Rohit was dismissed after scoring 11 runs off 21 balls in the opening ODI at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Tuesday after he advanced down the track against Sam Curran but holed out to Harry Brook at mid-off.

Furthermore, Rohit could only manage 26 runs off 47 balls in the second ODI at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on Thursday. After facing nine dot balls on the bounce, Rohit went for the sweep against Will Jacks but managed a bottom edge, which ballooned to Jos Buttler.

“Conditions are important. You have to respect the conditions. In this game, the ball was seaming, doing a bit, so you expect Rohit Sharma to take time as he is not playing all formats. He also understands and will reflect. After a point, after Sam Curran’s over, it looked like he was under pressure. Other than that, I felt the tempo was fine. I am not so worried about the strike rate. But normally, when he gets to 26, he does make a 50 from there. So that is something he would be concerned about,” Abhishek Nayar said on Star Sports’ segment ‘Game Plan’.

Nayar highlighted that Rohit has a solid record against the off-spinners but he was dismissed by Will Jacks in the second ODI.

“Rohit does not get out a lot against off-spinners. But he got out because it looked like he was sort of stuck for runs. So more than skill, it’s the mind. But he is batting well, so I am not concerned.”

It was recently reported that Rohit might play his final ODI at Lord’s but BCCI has dismissed such speculations.

Rohit will definitely want to get a big score in the final game against England.
