Indian opener Abhishek Sharma has opened up on missing his mentor Yuvraj Singh’s T20I record. Sharma scored a blistering knock of 68 runs off just 20 balls to help India chase down 154 runs in 10 overs.
The left-hander smashed seven fours and five sixes in his whirlwind knock. The youngster completed his fifty off just 14 balls, the second fastest T20I half-century for India after his mentor Yuvraj Singh, who scored a 12-ball fifty against England in the 2007 T20 World Cup.
Abhishek said breaking Yuvraj Singh’s record is almost impossible but at the same time feels there are many batters who can do that.
Abhishek Sharma said while talking to the broadcasters, ,”That’s more than impossible for anyone, but still, you never know. Any batsman could do it because I think all the batters have been batting really well in this series as well and going forward, it’s going to be fun.”
Opening up on his 14-ball fifty, he said, “That’s what my team wants from me and I just want to execute all the time. But obviously, it’s not easy to do it every time, but I think it’s all about mental as well and the atmosphere you get around your dressing room as well.”
Meanwhile, Sharma once again got off to a mark with a first-ball six against Jacob Duffy.
“I wouldn’t say it’s like I want to go from the first ball. It’s just the instinct I get in between the wickets. I think about the bowler if he wants to get out on my first ball, then what he could bowl to me and that’s always there in my mind and I just want to play on that ball,” he said.
Earlier in the series opener against the Kiwis, Sharma scored a blistering knock of 84 runs off just 35 balls.
The fourth T20I between India and New Zealand will be played at Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.
