Abhishek Sharma’s Explosive Batting Earns High Praise from Pat Cummins in IPL

In the current Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Abhishek Sharma has emerged as a formidable force with the bat, boasting a strike rate of 209.41. His explosive performances have garnered admiration from many, including his Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain and premier pacer, Pat Cummins, who admitted he would be reluctant to bowl to the left-hander, describing the prospect as “scary.”

Abhishek’s aggressive batting style was on full display during SRH’s recent four-wicket victory over Punjab Kings, where he smashed a blistering 66 off just 28 balls. His innings, which included six sixes and five fours, played a pivotal role in SRH’s successful chase of Punjab Kings’ challenging target of 215, achieved with five balls to spare.

“He (Abhishek) is amazing. I wouldn’t want to bowl to him. It’s scary as he plays with freedom, not only against pacers but also against spinners,” Cummins remarked during the post-match presentation.

The 23-year-old Abhishek, who represents Punjab in domestic cricket, has been in stellar form throughout this IPL season. He has amassed 467 runs from 13 matches, maintaining an extraordinary strike rate of nearly 210. His impressive tally includes 39 sixes and 35 fours, making him one of the most feared batsmen in the league.

In addition to Abhishek’s heroics, Cummins also lauded the performance of Nitish Reddy, who contributed a crucial 37 runs off 25 balls while batting at number four. “Nitish is a class player, matured beyond his age, seems to sum up the game really well. He is perfect for our top-order,” Cummins noted.

Reflecting on the team’s overall performance, Cummins expressed satisfaction and excitement about the prospect of a top-two finish, which would provide SRH with an extra opportunity to reach the final. “We have won five out of seven matches here, it has been great and amazing. It’s really satisfying and exciting. I haven’t played in finals before. We are playing some really good cricket. Excited for what’s ahead,” he added.

Abhishek attributed his success to the invaluable batting tips he received from cricket legend Brian Lara, who has previously been involved with the SRH franchise. “I have done some work with him, he’s in touch. That’s helping me now,” Abhishek revealed.

The young batsman’s latest fifty came off 21 balls, which, interestingly, was his slowest half-century of the season. His previous two fifties were even quicker, scored off 16 balls against Mumbai Indians and 19 balls against Lucknow Super Giants.

“My days are going good so I should utilise it for my team. I wanted to contribute as the target was big today. I think I have told this before, during Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy I was clear how I was going to play and dominate in the IPL. I’m just waiting for the loose balls. I am going hard against them and trying to put them (bowlers) under pressure,” Abhishek explained.

As the IPL season progresses, Abhishek Sharma’s blistering form and ability to decimate bowling attacks continue to be a significant asset for Sunrisers Hyderabad. His performances not only bolster SRH’s chances of securing a title but also mark him as one of the standout players in this year’s tournament.
