Former Australian wicket-keeper bat Adam Gilchrist slammed Rajasthan Royals for releasing Jos Buttler ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Buttler was bought for INR 15.75 crore by Gujarat Titans in the auction.
RR decided to retain Sanju Samson, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, Sandeep Sharma, and Riyan Parag ahead of the auction.
Meanwhile, Jos Buttler has been in tremendous form for the Titans, scoring 406 runs in nine matches of IPL 2025 at an average of 81.20 and a strike rate of 168.46.
On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals was officially knocked out of the playoffs race after suffering a 100-run loss against Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur.
“We heard Mike Hussey admit that they (CSK) got it wrong at the auction, and they are out. Someone needs to be accountable for what happened with the decision on Jos Buttler. RR have got it wrong, and they find themselves eliminated as well. So, there has got to be some accountability. I would have thought certainly, internally, they have got to be asking questions. That was a monumental mistake,” Gilchrist said on Cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, RR captain Sanju Samson admitted letting Jos Buttler go was one of the hardest calls for them ahead of the auction.
“Letting him go has been one of the most challenging decisions for me. During the England series, I told him over dinner that I was still not over it. If I could change one thing in the IPL, I would change the rule of releasing players every three years,” RR captain Samson told Jio Hotstar before the season began.
Rajasthan Royals will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday.
