Former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist said Jasprit Bumrah would have even troubled the great Sir Don Bradman. Bumrah is currently the best fast bowler across formats and he scalped 32 wickets in five Test matches against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar trophy at an impressive average of 13.06. Thus, he bagged the Player of the Series for his brilliant performance throughout the five-match series.
On the other hand, Sir Don Bradman is regarded as one of the best batters of all time. Bradman amassed 6996 runs in 52 Test matches at an average of 99.94 and the Australian great missed out on an average of 100 by four runs as he was dismissed for a blob in his swansong innings.
Gilchrist feels Bradman would not have averaged 99.94 if he had played against Jasprit Bumrah in his prime.
“I am not rating him, no number befitting what he is in world sport. He would have ripped on Bradman’s peak in the matter of balls. It would have been much further south of 99 [Bradman’s batting average ] that he sits at. You cannot have a reward that is high enough for him,” Gilchrist said on the Club Prairie Fire podcast.
After his impressive performances, Bumrah was named ICC Test Player of the Month for December.
Meanwhile, Bumrah was ruled out of the second innings in the SCG Test against Australia due to a back spasm and could not bowl after India had set a target of 162. Bumrah is expected to miss the group stage of the upcoming Champions Trophy and his absence will be a huge blow for the team.
India will take on Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand in the group stage of the marquee tournament.
India will next take on England in three ODIs and five T20Is at home.
