Former Indian batter Ajay Jadeja rated Shubman Gill’s superb catch as the turning point on the fourth day of the second Test match against Sri Lanka at Colombo on Wednesday. Kamindu Mendis played a pull shot against Prasidh Krishna in the 44th over, which balloned to deep fine area.

Shubman Gill had to run backwards, which is never easy, but he kept his eyes on the ball and pulled off a terrific take while diving. Mendis and Pasindu Sooriyabandara were going strongly as the duo had added 115 runs off 170 balls and thus it was a crucial breakthrough for the visitors. 

“It is a good catch, and more than anything else, where the stage was in the game, it was a turning point. You need some inspiration, and the captain came in there. He made it look simple. That’s what leaders need to do. Inspire everybody around you when things are not going right. If that wicket hadn’t fallen, I dread to feel where we would have been at this stage of the game. It was an important moment, and he made it look easy,” Ajay Jadeja said. (via Sony Sports Network)

While Mendis scored 55 runs off 92 balls, Sooriyabandara scored 92 runs off 173 balls. Sooriyabandara was stumped by Rishabh Pant after Manav Suthar bowled a wide line after the batter stepped down the track.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka are currently 280-6 in the second innings with Keshara Nuwantha and Sonal Dinusha unbeaten on 28 and 32 runs respectively. The duo has already added 62 runs off 139 balls and thus they are showing the resistance to keep India at bay.

Sri Lanka currently lead by 67 runs.
