Always believed I could take advantage if I had something different: Jasprit Bumrah on questions regarding bowling action

A lot of cricket pundits have questioned the peculiar bowling action of India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah takes a few walking steps, stutters and jogs a bit before delivering the ball. Thus, a lot of load is put on Bumrah’s body as there is no impetus in his run-up.

However, Bumrah has brushed the questions under the carpet when he has been asked about his unique bowling action. Bumrah is quick as he can easily clock more than 140 kmph on a consistent basis and thus he surprises the batsman with his pace as he has a short run-up.

Bumrah stated that he always thought he could take advantage if he had something different in his arsenal.

Jasprit Bumrah said while talking to Sky Sports, “Lot of questions about my action, I was always of the belief that if I have something different I can always take advantage and keep on improving. Test matches take a lot out of your body, and for me it’s always Test cricket growing up and as a youngster if someone asks me, I tell them that this is a format if you want to be recognised and gives you a lot of rewards.”

Meanwhile, Bumrah had gone wicketless in the all-important World Test Championship final against New Zealand. However, India’s pack leader returned back to his best as he scalped nine wickets in the opening Test match against England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Bumrah scalped his sixth five-wicket haul in the second innings and troubled England batsmen with his line and length.

“There was consistent swing throughout, when it was fuller it was easier to play but when it was on a length, it got tough and we figured that out in the second innings,” Bumrah asserted.

Furthermore, Bumrah scored a crucial knock of 28 runs, which is his best Test score. Bumrah’s little cameo helped India in propelling their lead to 95 runs and they were able to put themselves in a commanding position.

“We wanted to contribute as a lower-order, we are putting in a lot of effort, sometimes it comes off and sometimes it doesn’t.”

The first Test match ended in a draw as rain played spoilsport on the final day. The second Test match will take place at Lord’s from August 12.
