Former Indian batter Ambati Rayudu has shed light on Rohit Sharma’s future ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rayudu said the veteran batter will be part of the plans for the next ODI showpiece. Recently, Rohit returned with scores of 16, 48 and 79 in the three ODIs against Afghanistan while playing at home.
Rohit has all the experience under his belt and scored 283 runs in nine matches of IPL 2026 for the Mumbai Indians. The talisman has performed consistently for India in the 50-over version over the years and he is going to hold the key in the mega event.
“I think clarity is important for him and I am sure they would have given it to him. Maybe they are not just giving us the clarity. His experience is invaluable as a leader, not only on the ground but in the dressing room, to keep the atmosphere nice and that is very important going into a big tournament. I am sure he is in the plans and that is the reason why he is persisted with. I am sure he will step up in a big tournament and even against England, he will be hungry and raring to go,” Ambati Rayudu told a select group of journalists.
Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal recently scored 110 runs in the third ODI against Afghanistan. Rayudu said if given a choice he would pick both Rohit and Jaiswal in the ODI team.
“For me, both have a place if given a choice. Rohit definitely should be in the plans for the World Cup. You need all that experience to come to the fore to encounter tough challenges which might arise in the World Cup. When it comes to Jaiswal, I think he deserves his opportunity and there is no doubt about it. He will get his due but he should be prepared to contribute in the World Cup and should be a part of the team going forward,” he added.
India will take on England in a three-match ODI series after the conclusion of T20I series.
