Former Indian batter Ambati Rayudu said Rohit Sharma is staying fresh because of the breaks he has had. Mumbai Indians registered a six-wicket win against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Sunday. Chasing 221 runs for the win, Rohit scored 78 runs off just 38 balls with the help of six fours and as many sixes.
Rohit added 148 runs with Ryan Rickleton for the opening alliance to give a perfect start to the team. Rohit and Rickelton added 80 runs in the Powerplay overs to put MI in the driver’s seat.
The MI veteran batter batted at the top of his game and timed the ball to perfection. Rayudu said playing limited matches is helping both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Kohli also scored a fine knock of 69 runs off 38 balls in the opener against SRH on Saturday.
Ambati Rayudu said on ESPN Cricinfo, “Absolutely. Because you are still playing professional cricket, you still are very hungry. So, that hunger is what causes these performances. Once you keep playing throughout the year, sometimes you don’t have that hunger, you feel the burnout. It happens to many players after a long career. Rohit was looking tremendously fit as well, so it’s a great sign for him and MI.”
Meanwhile, Rohit has also shed off 10 kgs of weight and he is in a good physical state. Rayudu said Rohit fielding proves that he is in a good state of mind. In IPL 2025, Rohit was mostly used as an impact player but on Sunday, SKY played as an Impact Player for MI.
Rayudu said, “Him fielding shows that he is an a very good frame of mind. He is in a good mental space. He was fielding at long on, if you look at the game, not inside the circle. He is very confident about his own fitness, his body. Also, he wants to really contribute in the field and also help Hardik.”
Mumbai Indians will next take on Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on Saturday.
