Amit Mishra announces retirement from all forms of cricket

India’s veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Mishra featured for India in 22 Tests, 36 ODIs and 10 T20Is and took 156 wickets in total. He made his international debut in 2003 against South Africa and played his last match in Indian colors in 2017 against England.

The 42-year-old from Haryana made his Test debut in 2008 against Australia and returned with a five-wicket haul (5-71) in the first innings at Mohali.

The leg-spinner scalped 174 wickets in 162 IPL matches at an average of 23.82 and an economy rate of 7.38. Ergo, Mishra is regarded as one of the most successful spinners in IPL history.

Mishra gave his gratitude to all the people who played a key role in his career.

Mishra wrote on his X account, “These 25 years of my life in cricket have been nothing short of memorable. I am deeply grateful to the BCCI, the administration, Haryana cricket association, the support staff, my colleagues, and to my family members who were with me all this while.”

“I would like to thank the fans whose love and support whenever and wherever I played made the journey memorable. Cricket has given me countless memories and invaluable learnings, and each moment on the ground has been a memory I’ll treasure for life.”

“From the struggles and sacrifices in the early days to the unforgettable moments on the field, every chapter has been an experience that has shaped me as a cricketer and as a person. To my family, thank you for standing firmly by my side through the highs and lows. To my teammates and mentors, thank you for making this journey so special. As I close this chapter, my heart is full of gratitude and love. Cricket has given me everything, and now, I look forward to giving back to the game that made me who I am,” he added.
