India’s women head coach Amol Muzumdar has backed Jemimah Rodrigues to deliver the goods for the team amid the ongoing Women T20 World Cup 2026. Rodrigues was dismissed after scoring 12 runs off 14 balls against South Africa at Old Trafford, Manchester on Sunday.
The right-hander was caught and bowled by Nadine de Klerk when she could only manage a top-edge. In the first two matches against Pakistan and the Netherlands, Rodrigues had returned with scores of 1 and 19 respectively.
“You have thrown the stats just now on me, but nothing of concern as far as I’m concerned,” Muzumdar said in the post-match press conference.
“Jemy is a clutch player for us. We know for a fact that if she comes good, she’ll win us a game. The scores haven’t reflected the talent that she has, but I’m sure, in the coming days, she’ll come along.”
Meanwhile, Marizanne Kapp was given two lives by Radha Yadav and she went on to punish India as she scored a match-winning knock of 81 runs off just 45 balls. However, Muzumdar put his weight behind Yadav despite costly drops.
“My hand stays like this on my face, and it stays like that only. It happens inside,” he admitted candidly. “But Radha has been an exceptional, world-class fielder. She’s a strong character, and I’m sure somewhere in this tournament she’ll make up for it.”
With two games still to go in the group stage, Muzumdar is confident that they can turn a tide in their favour if they play up to their potential.
“Of course, it was a big game. There’s no doubt about it. But we still have 2 more games to look forward to, and, there is no doubt in my mind that if we play to our potential, we can be on the right side of those 2 games,” he said.
India will next take on Bangladesh at Old Trafford, Manchester, on Thursday.
