Former England skipper Nasser Hussain has said England wants to win despite claiming not too flustered by the results in the ongoing Ashes against Australia. Under Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes, England has adopted Bazball and the aggressive approach has helped them reap fruits.
England has won 11 out of their last 14 Test matches with the new approach under the tutelage of Brendon McCullum. Hussain reckons England adopted Bazball because they wanted positive results.
In fact, the likes of Ben Stokes, James Anderson, Zak Crawley, and Joe Root have claimed that results don’t matter to them and they will continue to play in a similar fashion. However, Nasser Hussain doesn’t buy this idea.
“All we have seen since that (first) Test are comments on the merits of Bazball and whether it can win the Ashes,” Hussain wrote for Daily Mail.
“We must also remember that, whatever England say about not being a results-based side, the reason they have introduced this style is to maximise their chances of winning.”
“England wants to win. I have wanted England to win the whole of my life. But, as a 55-year-old, I do now see the bigger picture.”
“When I left Edgbaston I looked at the crowd and the record viewing figures on Sky and thought, ‘Yes, we want a bit more of that’.”
England is surely redefining Test cricket as they are playing in an exciting way. The English team is taking the bulls by its horns but they will be looking to get positive results in the ongoing series.
The Ben Stokes-led team lost the opening Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham by two wickets and they will be looking to bounce back in the second Test match at Lord’s.
Stokes won the toss in the second Test and decided to bowl first against Australia.
