Pakistan bowling coach Shaun Tait reckons Haris Rauf’s last over against India in the Super Four contest at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday of the Asia Cup 2022 was a match-winning effort. Rauf conceded 10 runs in the final over of the innings and thus kept India at 181 runs.
Rauf bowled a wide on the first ball but bounced back stronger to ball three dot balls against a well-settled Virat Kohli. The talisman was run-out on the fourth ball of the over and Ravi Bishnoi was able to get two boundaries on the final two balls to help India get past the 180-run mark.
In fact, Fakhar Zaman dropped Bishnoi’s catch on the last ball of the innings and thus Rauf’s figures could have been better.
Meanwhile, Rauf also got the big wicket of Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who had got off to a rollicking start. The right-arm pacer consistently bowled around 150 km/h and conceded 38 runs in his quota of four overs.
“Haris Rauf’s last over for me, putting aside the misfield and the drop catch. He has been working so hard on his yorkers and slower balls like the other guys have. And his execution in the last over was perfect last night. Potentially, that was match-winning,” Tait was quoted as saying in a video on Pakistan Cricket’s Twitter handle.
Meanwhile, Pakistan was able to get over the line after Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Nawaz scored 71 and 42 runs respectively. The left and right-hand batting combination added 73 runs for the third wicket alliance in the run-chase.
Pakistan was able to tick the right boxes against India and they were able to register a win after coming up with a collective show. Mohammad Nawaz was the star of the show as he dismissed Suryakumar Yadav and scored valuable runs after getting a promotion in the batting order.
Pakistan will face Afghanistan on Wednesday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
