India’s superstar Virat Kohli has opened up on his mindset to be hungry all the time and improve his game with each practice session. Kohli is regarded as one of the best batters of the current era across all three formats of the game.
The linchpin has been consistent throughout his career and there is no doubt he is going to hold the key for India in the Asia Cup and the all-important ODI World Cup.
India is all set to take on arch-rivals Pakistan on Saturday in the Asia Cup in the much-awaited contest. Kohli admitted that bowling is Pakistan’s strength and feels the Indian team needs to be at their best to get the desired result.
“I feel bowling is their strength. And they’ve got some really impactful bowlers that can change the course of the game anytime based on their skill set. So, you have to be at your absolute best to face them,” he told Star Sports.
“I only try to understand how I can better my game. Every day, every practice session, every year, every season, this is what has helped me play this well for so long and to perform for my team,” Virat Kohli added.
”I don’t think you can perform consistently without that mindset because if your performance is your only goal, then you can be satisfied and stop working hard. There is no limit to it.
”There is no set achievement that if you reach a certain stage, you’ve reached excellence. I think I strive for betterment every day, so that is a better word to use, and yes, performance obviously becomes a by-product because your mindset is ‘How do I make my team win from this position?”
Kohli has played 13 ODIs against Pakistan in which he has scored 536 runs at an average of 48.72, including a mammoth score of 183 runs. The talisman has amassed 12898 runs in 275 ODI matches at an average of 57.32 and he is regarded as one of the best ODI batters of all time.
India will begin their Asia Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele on September 2.
