India’s wicket-keeper bat KL Rahul has said that they will try to take on the attack against Sri Lankan spinner, Dinuth Wellalage if they face the youngster in the Asia Cup final. Wellalage breathed down the neck of the Indian batters at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Tuesday.
The young spinner returned with impressive figures of 5-40 and made the most of the conducive spin-friendly conditions. Wellalage accounted for Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya.
The 20-year-old was right on the money and did a fantastic job for the team.
“He got five wickets and got the job done for his team. He looked the most dangerous bowler from the Sri Lankan attack, Obviously, Asalanka also picked up a few wickets later on. Probably next time we play we will try to get after him,” said Rahul in the press conference.
Meanwhile, Rahul has hit the strides since he has made a comeback to the Indian team. The flamboyant batter scored a fine knock of 111 runs off just 106 balls against Pakistan and added a massive alliance of 233 runs with Virat Kohli. Rahul continued his good show against Sri Lanka as he scored 39 runs and added 63 runs with Ishan Kishan.
“I am happy with how the last two games have gone. I was a little nervous initially but as I started facing a few balls I felt alright,” said Rahul.
Rahul was optimistic about getting the job done for the team and is delighted with the way he has come back.
“I was thinking that I will be in the playing 11 and that’s how I prepared. I was confident that I can still go there and do the job,” said Rahul.
India will take on Bangladesh on Friday whereas they will face either Pakistan or Sri Lanka in the summit clash of the continental tournament at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Sunday.
