India’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has revealed that the team wanted to forget the ignominious defeat at Adelaide and they wanted to start fresh after they were bundled out for their lowest ever Test total – 36. Jadeja said that they treated it as a three-match series after the Adelaide collapse.
India had their backs against the wall as they were obliterated by Australia in the Adelaide Test match. However, the team made a roaring comeback in the MCG Test match as the skipper Ajinkya Rahane scored a majestic hundred. Ravindra Jadeja also played a key role in that win as he had scored 57 runs and added 121 runs with Rahane to extend India’s lead to 131 runs.
Subsequently, India did well to draw the SCG Test match after Australia dominated on the first four days. The visitors came up with a magical victory in the final Test match at the Gabba, Brisbane as the young players delivered the goods for the team.
Ravindra Jadeja said while talking to Sports Today, “We decided to look at it as a 3-match series from thereon. ‘Let’s forget about the first Test, it’s a three-game series for us’. We decided that we will create positive energy in the ground and boost each other’s confidence by talking, not thinking or talking about the Adelaide Test.”
In fact, Jadeja had missed the first Test match at Adelaide due to concussion which he suffered in the first T20I. The Saurashtra all-rounder revealed that he wanted to contribute to the team’s win and had a positive mindset when he was picked in the final XI at the MCG.
“I personally decided that I will practice batting in Australia. I had a positive mindset that whenever I will get the chance I will contribute to the team’s cause. Especially in Australia, playing against Australia. It was tough as Australia’s bowling attack was very strong. That was the discussion we had in the team meeting.”
However, Jadeja was ruled out of the fourth Test match due to thumb injury as he was hit by a rising delivery from Mitchell Starc in the SCG Test. In fact, Jadeja could not even bowl in the second dig.
Jadeja has undergone surgery and he is now completing his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The all-rounder is unlikely to be fit for the Test series against England and a call will be taken later on his availability for the limited-over series.
