Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was delighted after they defeated Australia by 48 runs at the Gold Coast on Thursday in the fourth T20I of the series. India posted a competitive total of 167 runs on the board after they were put into bat by Mitchell Marsh.
Yadav said the openers – Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill – batted smartly as they gauged that it was not a 200-run wicket. Gill top-scored for India with 46 runs off 39 balls but it was the bowlers who did the bulk of the work.
Sharma and Gill added 56 runs off 40 balls whereas Axar Patel added the finishing touches with a fine little cameo of 21 runs off 11 balls. Furthermore, Patel was the pick of the Indian bowlers, returning with figures of 2-20 in his quota of four overs. The left-arm orthodox spinner accounted for Matthew Short and Josh Inglis.
Moreover, Shivam Dube got two bonus wickets, dismissing Tim David and Mitchell Marsh whereas Washington Sundar returned with impressive figures of 3-3.
Suryakumar Yadav said in the post-match presentation while talking to Adam Gilchrist, “Credit to all the batters, especially Abhishek and Shubman. The way they started in the powerplay was smart, they realized early it wasn’t a typical wicket for 200+. Everyone chipped in, and it was a complete team effort with the bat. The messages were clear from outside as well, me and Gauti bhai were on the same page.”
He added, “The bowlers adapted quickly, especially with a bit of dew coming in. The way they bowled was fantastic. It’s great to have bowlers who can give you two or three overs, and on some days even four. It depends on the situation, some days Washington bowls four, some days Shivam or Arshdeep might bowl less. This flexibility suits us. Everyone’s ready to step up and do what the team needs.”
