Bumrah’s Return Sparks Hope as MI Gear Up for High-Stakes Clash Against RCB

After a shaky start to their IPL 2025 campaign, Mumbai Indians (MI) are hoping the return of Jasprit Bumrah can ignite a much-needed revival. The five-time champions, who have won just one of their first four matches, are set to welcome back their pace ace just in time for a marquee encounter against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Monday.

Bumrah, sidelined for the opening fortnight due to a minor injury, rejoined the MI squad over the weekend and immediately lifted the mood at the camp. During Saturday’s practice session, even a light spell at Rohit Sharma in the nets was enough to inject energy and optimism into a squad desperately searching for momentum.

MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene confirmed the pacer’s availability. “Having Bumrah back is massive for us,” Jayawardene said. “Even at 80%, he brings experience, leadership, and that x-factor we’ve missed.”

Rohit Sharma, who sat out the previous match after sustaining a knock to his knee, is also set to return, bolstering MI’s top order ahead of a crucial fixture. His leadership and batting at the top have historically been vital for the team, especially during pressure situations.

RCB, meanwhile, come into the clash with two wins in three, including high-profile scalps of Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings. Although they stumbled against Gujarat Titans, Rajat Patidar’s men remain a serious threat. The top-order duo of Virat Kohli and Phil Salt will be key against the Bumrah-led attack on a red-soil Wankhede pitch that has favoured pacers this season.

RCB’s bowling unit, spearheaded by Josh Hazlewood, will also look to exploit MI’s fragile batting. Hazlewood’s early bursts could test the returning Rohit and the misfiring middle order, which has yet to find consistency.

With playoff spots becoming more elusive by the week, MI knows the stakes. “We can’t afford another slip-up,” an MI insider said. “This is more than just another game—it’s a must-win.”

As Bumrah gears up to spearhead the attack once more, MI fans will be hoping their talisman can spark a turnaround and keep their title dreams alive. Monday’s clash is not just about points; it’s about MI finding its soul again.
